When a used engine or transmission makes sense
A spun bearing, a thrown rod, or a transmission that slips and shudders under load doesn't have to be the end of a truck or car whose body and frame are still solid. A used engine or transmission out of a salvage vehicle can be the practical fix, and it drops straight back into a vehicle that's otherwise worth keeping on the road.
Plenty of the vehicles that come through our yard get parted out because of body damage, not because the drivetrain was bad. That's where a used motor or trans comes from: a running vehicle that met its end some other way.

How the yard stages and tags a motor or trans
Every engine and transmission we pull gets staged on a pallet in the yard with a grease-pencil stock tag, the same way the rest of the inventory is marked. Dave at the counter matches it against your vehicle over the phone before you ever drive to South 11th Street, so you're not making the trip on a guess.
Have the year, make and model ready, plus the engine size and whether it's 2WD or 4WD. The engine code stamped on the block, or printed on the emissions label under the hood, narrows it down fast, and for a transmission tell us the trans type. The more of that you have, the quicker we can tell you what's on the shelf.
Chapter 03
Picking up a motor or transmission
Call ahead to (414) 643-1189 once we've confirmed we have your unit. The crew loads it onto your truck or trailer at pickup, so bring straps and something that can handle the weight. An engine or transmission is not light, and a flatbed trailer or a truck bed rated for it makes the loading go a lot smoother.
